Paco Villanueva

Oenologist

He likes great challenges, he likes conquests, fruit of effort and tenacity; dreams are there to turn them into realities; like one of his youthful dreams: trekking from the Himalayas of Nepal to the foot of Everest and bivouac at Base Camp.
In the same way, that dreamer who did not change the course of his destiny, is now a Mexican oenologist with a winery in the Designation of Origin Toro and with the spirit of producing quality wines in small productions very carefully, starting from the magnificent raw material that is the native variety Tinta de Toro, which has attracted so many men and prestigious names to these Castilian lands.

A family business

Oenologist by vocation; Paco Villanueva's grandfather and father were wine and liquor merchants. At the time when his grandfather was a wine merchant, he imported into Mexico from Spain barrels of red Rioja and Sherry wines. Also present were bottles of French Champagne labelled in a personalized manner for his grandfather, a distributor for Mexico. "As a child, that was the first image of the world of wine, one that would no longer be erased from my mind. In the office bookstore there were a couple of oenology books; since then they have been in my hands".

Then what followed, at the age of 16, in high school, the decision was made; when the time came, Paco would study for a degree in Chemistry to later take the Higher Specialization Course in Viticulture and Oenology in Spain, given by the Higher Technical School of Agricultural Engineers of the Polytechnic University of Madrid and the National Institute of Agrarian Research. After his studies he found in his mind another dream and challenge to be fufilled: one day he would return to Spain to undertake his own project.
